Have you ever read
Limbo, by Bernard Wolfe?
I was reminded of that book when I saw the following story today.
Mother-of-two becomes first transplant patient to receive an organ grown to order in a laboratory.
Of course in Wolfe's book, people have their limbs cut off for cybernetic prosthesis, but it is close enough none the less.
There are definitely good reasons to have surgeries like this, but in our superficial world, it makes you wonder where this can all lead.
